Project Overview
Following the successful completion of Stage 1 at Claremont Plaza, Thermoshield was re-engaged to complete Stage 2 of Woolworths’ Tasmania infrastructure upgrades. This phase focused on additional buildings experiencing significant corrosion, structural fatigue, and internal heat load issues — especially across interconnected supermarket roofs and ancillary areas.
The goal: to halt corrosion, restore structural integrity, and apply a UV-reflective ceramic membrane to reduce internal heat while ensuring a non-permeable, electrically insulating finish across the entire surface.
Key Benefits Delivered
Rust Conversion & Inhibition
- Roof surfaces affected by rust were chemically treated using rust-converting primers, transforming active corrosion into inert phosphate layers.
- Followed with an etch primer across all surfaces to prevent future corrosion cycles.
Waterproofing & Sealant System
- Ridge caps, roof penetrations, screw heads, and flashings were comprehensively sealed using:
- Paintable silicone
- Expandable waterproof foam
- Fibre-reinforced membranes
- Resulted in a fully sealed system that prevents moisture ingress and prolongs roof life.
Galvanic Corrosion Resistance
- Thermoshield’s non-conductive ceramic coating eliminated galvanic reaction risks from dissimilar metals.
- Provided electrical insulation between incompatible materials, halting corrosion caused by electrolytic exchange.
Thermal Reduction
- Applied two coats of Thermoshield across all roof surfaces.
- The coating’s millions of hollow ceramic microspheres reflect solar radiation and form an air-insulated barrier.
- Internal temperatures were reduced, improving comfort and reducing cooling energy demands.

- All works conducted without disrupting store operations.
- Sealing and coating system applied efficiently and cleanly across active commercial facilities.
