Project Overview
Located in the City of Boroondara, the Kew Recreation Centre’s roof was in a deteriorated state — suffering from advanced chalking, visible corrosion, and heavily rusted tech screws. With signs of accelerated weathering and degradation, the risk of widespread corrosion and premature roof failure had become urgent.
Thermoshield was engaged to perform a complete restoration, incorporating deep surface preparation, rust conversion, and the application of a multi-layer ceramic membrane system — delivering extended asset life, improved waterproofing, and thermal insulation.
Key Benefits Delivered
Rust Conversion & Structural Protection
- Treated every rusted tech screw with rust converter to prevent further corrosion.
- Heavily weathered sheeting and joins were repaired and waterproofed.
- Ensured Thermoshield coating adhered to stable, corrosion-free surfaces.
Waterproofing & Longevity
- Identified and sealed all potential leak points including old anchor points and sheet joins.
- Installed an etch primer to enhance adhesion and provide additional protection beneath the ceramic coating.
Thermal Insulation
- Applied two full coats of Thermoshield thermal ceramic coating.
- Reduced solar heat gain, improving indoor temperature regulation and decreasing load on HVAC systems.
- Significantly extended the life of the metal roof while improving energy efficiency.
Surface Restoration & Visual Renewal
- Carried out high-pressure washing at 3,600 psi to remove chalked paint and debris.
- Post-wash revealed clean metal surface and ensured proper adhesion for coating layers.
- Final coating delivered a clean, uniform finish, transforming the building’s appearance.
